Getting Here For those travelling by air, Qantaslink, Virgin, Jetstar and Regional Express operate frequent services to Tasmania. There are direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Launceston and Hobart, from Brisbane to Hobart, from Adelaide to Hobart, and from Melbourne to Devonport, Burnie and King Island. King Island Airlines and TasAir operate services to King Island. Airlines of Tasmania operates services to Flinders Island. Flying Tasmania is a little over an hour’s flight from Melbourne, the nearest mainland capital city. A number of airlines fly into Tasmania - see below for further information. Qantas flies several times daily into Hobart and Launceston from Melbourne and Sydney, while QantasLink flies into Devonport and Wynyard (Burnie). There are connections from other mainland centres on the Qantas/QantasLink network. Reservations - phone 13 1713 or www.regionalexpress.com.au Virgin Blue flies into Launceston and Hobart from Melbourne and Sydney, with connections from other destinations within the Virgin Blue network. Virgin Blue also offers direct flights between Brisbane and Hobart, and between Adelaide and Hobart. Reservations - phone 13 6789 or www.virginblue.com.au Jetstar, Qantas’s budget airline, operates low-cost services from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane direct to Hobart and from Melbourne and Sydney direct to Launceston. From December, Jetstar will also offer direct flights from Brisbane to Launceston. In addition, from 1 February 2005 Jetstar will offer direct flights from Adelaide to Hobart. Reservations - phone (03) 9580 3777 TasAir flies into King Island from Devonport and Burnie (Wynyard), with connections to Burnie from Hobart. Reservations - phone 1800 144 460 or www.airtasmania.com.au Spirit of Tasmania Bass Strait is the sea-road to Tasmania. The Spirit of Tasmania offer an overnight service in both directions between Melbourne and Devonport seven days a week, year round, with additional services in peak periods; and a service from Sydney to Devonport in both directions up to three times a week - fantastic news for visitors from Sydney, northern New South Wales, Southern Queensland and the ACT wishing to bring their cars to Tasmania. Directions to St Helens From Scamander – drive along Tasman Highway. Turn left into Falmouth Street (about 1.5km before St Helens town) then turn left into Halcyon Grove (2nd left) From Scottsdale – drive along Tasman Highway through St Helens town and over the bridge. Turn right into Falmouth Street (about 1.5 km past the town) then turn left into Halcyon Grove (2nd left). Special Note: The south route via St Mary’s is more driver friendly taking an approximately 2 hours. The north route via Scottsdale takes 3 hours as the roads are windier, but is nevertheless picturesque and has some interesting places to visit along the way.
