Suncoast Jazz Festivals
June 24th to 26th - 2005 Suncoast Jazz Festival Tasmania’s biggest single jazz event is held in the sunny seaside town of St Helens on the last weekend of June every year. The Suncoast Jazz Festival attracts some of the best jazz players in Australia, as well as Tasmania’s top jazz musicians. Among the guest artists who have appeared at the festival in the past are Bob Barnard, Alex Hutchinson, Paul Furniss, Erie Holroyd, Tom Baker and well-known Tasmanian jazz musician lan Pearce. The three-day festival is run on a mix and match system where musicians register individually and are placed in groups for 30 minute sets. This gives musicians an opportunity to play with others of like interest that they may never have played with before, and also creates a spontaneous concert of jazz. The festival has become renowned for playing a mix of mainstream, Dixieland and New Orleans music, providing its patrons with more than 16 hours of jazz. The festival closes with a public concert and a street march. Click here for more information
